People involved in the street life of Madrid, Barcelona, Palma, Valencia, Copenhague, Berlín y Praga, have the pleasure or disgrace of attending the lettering game of PUTO graffiti artist. Inmersed in the infinite debate of what is art or what isn´t, Agapè has the pleasure to interview this street artist figure in the Madrid artistic scene, member of the crew- F.W.
PUTO, why did you start performing art this way?
That I started painting as "PUTO" derivated as the typical jokes that emerge when you are young and you are at school with your collegues. Everything makes sense, this is why my signature comes from the spanish frase "el puto amo". One of my best friends stayed with the "el amo" and I with the rest of the frase.
How long have you been with this lifestyle of being cold, hidding and running away from the cops?
What refers to painting with spray bottles I´ve been doing it since Im 13 years old, basically means grabbing your shitty sprays in class and going with your friends and do some simple signatures.
How would you define what represents for you writting on walls?
For me graffiti is a way of bringing to life an idea that you have in your mind using spray paint. This can be done in a way in which adrelaline and your desperation to paint come together, painting either in known walls or deserted areas. It is also a way of hanging out with your friends and be relaxed painting and what this means to us. It is pure conection.
What surfaces do you work on? How has the process of what you wanted to take from graffiti been developed?
I have no preference in surfaces, It just needs to be comfortable and make sure the paint will stay with no problems. Regarding styles, I´ve varied them since I started with this lifestyle, but I could say I´ve always liked experimenting with each piece I complete. Like the rest, I have a couple of styles which I use in different situations which I feel while I´m performing. Now a days, what I enjoy the most are the evenings in the streets withmy friends, pieces with which I can analyse and add new things as the day goes by. But it is true that one always has the feeling and the inpacience to paint something that requires "the balls" to do so.
Tell us things about art, What is the meaning it has in the way you see things PUTO?
Graffiti is art. Art is anything that completes a person with the intention to alter the sensations and emotions of another person.
Finally, the common question, How do you feel society considers what Spanish street artists such as FLAM1, SOBRIO or you are doing?
In this society we find everything, from people that see it as a simple act of vandalism or the ore open-minded individuals; people that believe that we are giving life to the streets or any wall. We bring colour to your city.
Puto.
